“Protect the Kids” by removing protections for them.

It’s giving United State’s Politics.

Colorado overturns conversion therapy protections

In a major 8–1 ruling on March 31, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a Colorado law that protected minors from “conversion therapy.” In the case of Chiles v. Salazar, Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote the majority opinion, arguing that “talk therapy” is a form of protected speech rather than just professional conduct. By framing the ban as “viewpoint discrimination,” the Court has effectively put similar protections in over 20 other states at risk.

The unironic irony.

There is a tragic irony in using “freedom” as a reason to remove protections for vulnerable children. We do not have to search far to imagine the horrific, lifelong impact this will have on queer youth. While this ruling doesn’t change the law in every state immediately, it is a concerning step backward in places like Colorado where these safety nets were already in place. Rights and freedoms do not earn themselves; we have to make a stand and ensure those around us understand that treating a child’s identity as a “viewpoint” to be corrected is not okay.

The Trevor Project Condemns the Supreme Court Decision

The Trevor Project’s stance is clear: they believe this ruling is a dangerous mistake that puts lives at risk by picking “free speech” over the safety of children.

They point out that while the Court sees “speech,” doctors see “malpractice.” Their data shows that kids subjected to these practices are over twice as likely to attempt suicide, making this a physical safety crisis rather than just a First Amendment argument.

We may not be able to change the law today, but we can change how people understand the impact. By moving the conversation from “legal theory” to “child safety,” we can make it clear that a therapist’s license should never be a license to cause permanent psychological harm.

Share the facts about the suicide risks and mental health impact so your neighbors understand that this isn’t about “free speech”—it’s about child safety.

This article is an opinion piece intended to highlight the human and medical impact of recent legal shifts. While the courts debate the boundaries of the First Amendment, the data regarding the safety of our youth remains clear.
